Sport England uses video to increase the adoption of primary PE and sport funding

Somersault recently worked with Sport England to produce a series of videos that demonstrate the benefits of primary schools accessing primary PE and sports premium funding to ensure that all children participate in regular physical activity. The goal of the project was to encourage improvements in the quality of PE teaching and sports accessibility through accessing premium funding. Video was used alongside other content to drive an increase in engagement with the funding programme. A key part of this was sharing the stories and successes of schools that have used funding to improve fitness and wellbeing within their school. The introductory video featured Edward Timpson MP, the Minister responsible for PE and school sport talking about the overall objectives of the funding – to equip children to have a healthy lifestyle and life long participation in physical activity. The following four videos focused on how the funding benefits children physically, emotionally and mentally using a combination of live footage of teachers, parents and children alongside graphics sharing key statistics. This project marks the fourth time Sport England has partnered with Somersault, having previously produced films for the World Mental Health day, Inspired Facilities and Instructability projects.

Suzanne Glavin, Strategic lead (Youth), Sport England commented:

“Working alongside Somersault on this project was a great match. They understood what we were trying to achieve from the outset and developed a creative approach that was engaging and memorable for our target audience.”

Colin Miles, CEO, Somersault commented:

‚ÄúWe are delighted to continue our work with Sport England, having worked on a really diverse range of projects over the past eighteen months. This series of videos tackles the important subject of keeping children active and will help to raise awareness of primary sports funding across all Sport England’s online channels.”

The films are now live on the Sport England website and YouTube channel. Most recently Somersault was appointed as the video communications agency for Sport England’s major new campaign celebrating having reached £5 billion in funding for sports organisations over the last 20 years.
